Ukrainian intelligence alleges that Russia is using Elon Musk’s Starlink satellites in the occupied territories. These satellite constellations, produced and deployed by SpaceX, facilitate internet access in the active region. Russia-Starlink relationship
Starlink satellites became active in the region shortly after Russia began its occupation and provided internet service for the Ukrainian army. However, the Ukrainian side claimed to have detected in Russian soldiers’ radio conversations that some of these satellites were also being used by Russia. However, there is no clear information on exactly how many satellites are under Russian control.
Starlink, in an official statement, emphasized that these claims are entirely baseless and that they have no direct or indirect cooperation with the Russian government. SpaceX also stated that they would investigate the matter and any satellites found to be used improperly or illegally would be immediately rendered inoperative. However, there are also allegations that the Russian military has been secretly benefiting from these satellites without the knowledge of SpaceX management.
The company’s CEO, Elon Musk, stated in his post that Starlink satellites are not fully operational in Russia and that the allegations are completely baseless. He also stated that they have no business ties with the country and will not have any in the future.
