When Valve first launched the Steam Deck, gamers were excited. However, all eyes are now on Steam Deck 2. Lawrence Yang and Jay Sha, two of Valve’s Steam Deck designers, gave important hints in an interview in Australia.
Valve gave hints for Steam Deck 2: New hardware on the way?
Yang and Sha talked about Valve’s experience with hardware development to date, and while they declined to make any specific announcements about Steam Deck 2, they did provide some important information about future projects.
“When we were developing Steam Deck, we took what we learned from projects like Steam Controller, Steam Machines, and Valve Index, and now we’re taking what we learned from Steam Deck and bringing it to future hardware,” Yang said, confirming that they are working on new hardware.
According to the statement, Valve is in the process of developing a new device based on existing Steam Deck experiences. However, the exact nature of the new device is still unclear. Given the huge success of Steam Deck, it’s quite possible that Valve is working on Steam Deck 2.
Valve’s success in the handheld console market is due to the hardware’s strong performance and user-friendliness. However, the first-generation Steam Deck also had its limitations, such as a lack of battery life and performance optimization. Therefore, Steam Deck 2 may be able to offer players much more powerful hardware.
