Capcom has officially revealed Akuma in a new trailer for Street Fighter 6, while also confirming the spring release window.
Akuma revealed in Street Fighter 6 new trailer
In the trailer, we see an angry but this time older Akuma ripping a statue’s head off his shoulders with a ghostly, red Shoryuken (Street Fighter’s iconic Dragon Punch move). Akuma looks like he’s going to be very powerful in this game as well.
Although it’s hard to see, Ryu is also present in the Akuma trailer, suggesting that the two rivals will once again rain fireballs down on each other. Elsewhere in the trailer, Akuma has a design inspired by Street Fighter Alpha 2. That’s all we saw in the trailer, no gameplay elements were shown.
Akuma’s appearance comes after the release of other DLC characters Rashid, A.K.I. and Ed. Akuma complements the game’s first year of DLC characters. Capcom has not yet made an announcement for the second year.
The official description about Akuma is as follows:
“The evil Akuma joins the Street Fighter 6 roster, completing the year 1 character roster for the award-winning fighting game that will hit the streets in Spring 2024! Players can battle Akuma in three game modes, including Fight Zone, World Tour and Battle Center. We look forward to sharing much more about Akuma. And stay tuned for interesting announcements about year 2 content for the year ahead, and perhaps some fun events coming to the Battle Center!”
Street Fighter 6 sold three million copies within seven months of going on sale in June 2023. The game got off to a strong start with one million copies sold the weekend of its release, followed by two million copies sold just over a month after its launch.
Capcom is also pleased with Street Fighter 6’s success and looks set to keep us excited with new character trailers.
