Tecno has announced a new image processing system that improves the accuracy of skin tones. According to 9to5Google, the technology is based on an expanded tint database and an innovative colour correction algorithm. The company says this feature will allow users to take realistic photos without colour distortion, regardless of light and background.
Tecno announces new image processing system
Tecno has expanded its Skin Tone Database to include data for multiple skin tones. The new tool, Multi Skin Tone Colour Card, contains 372 colour swatches, double the previous versions.

This data is used to calibrate the images, enabling accurate reproduction of skin tones in different parts of the world.
But a single database is not enough. The most important element of the system is the Skin Tone Restoration Engine. This mechanism analyses the photo and automatically adjusts the colour rendering, taking into account light, background and camera characteristics. In this way, the image retains its natural colours even in difficult shooting conditions.
Smartphone cameras usually adjust colours according to general parameters. But Tecno uses regional models. The algorithm takes into account the lighting characteristics and common colour tones in different parts of the world. For example, if the background is too dark or bright, the system automatically compensates the exposure to maintain realistic skin tones.
In addition, the new technology is integrated into the Universal Tone Engine, which is responsible for white balance, saturation and contrast. In this way, colour reproduction becomes more stable when shooting conditions change. For example, if the lighting in the frame changes, the system adapts the settings accordingly and eliminates distortions.
Tecno is expected to introduce this technology at MWC 2025. This technology is rumoured to be integrated into new models of the Camon series. The company is also rumoured to showcase AI-powered devices, including smart glasses and new Megabook laptops.
