In the unfortunate incident that occurred in 2022, it was revealed that Tesla employee Hans von Ohain, who worked in human resources, lost his life. Von Ohain, along with his friend Erik Rossiter, was going to play golf when he activated the beta autonomous mode of the Tesla Model 3 while driving. After a while, the car veered off the road, hit a tree, and caught fire, resulting in von Ohain’s death.
Tesla Employee Met Tragic Fate!
Although Erik Rossiter, who survived the accident, stated that von Ohain was calm despite being under the influence of alcohol and that there was no reason for him to cause the accident, the need for steering control while using the autonomous mode suggests that alcohol consumption could have contributed to such an accident. The autopsy of von Ohain revealed that his blood alcohol level was three times the normal level.
However, if Rossiter’s claims are true and von Ohain had no fault while driving, then the Tesla employee will go down in history as the first victim of the company’s top-level autonomous driving system. Rossiter mentioned that he did not remember exactly what happened during the accident, only that he was trying to get his friend out of the burning car and then found himself in the hospital. The Colorado Police Department identified alcohol use as a key factor in the incident, while also stating that they could initiate an investigation into the Tesla Model 3’s autonomous driving feature.
