Tesla FSD 14 is finally rolling out to HW4-equipped vehicles through software update 2025.32.8.5. This marks one of Tesla’s most substantial leaps in supervised autonomy, introducing upgraded behaviors, smoother responses, and a quirky new driving mode called “Sloth.”
Tesla FSD 14 is HW4-exclusive, for now
If you’re still on Hardware 3.0, you’re out of luck. Tesla is limiting FSD 14 to vehicles running its latest hardware suite, known as HW4. The reason? FSD 14 reportedly uses six times the parameter count of FSD 13, which puts serious strain on older systems.
Elon Musk previously admitted that even FSD 13 pushed the limits of HW3’s capacity. So don’t expect retroactive support anytime soon.
Sloth mode dials safety all the way down
One of the standout features in Tesla FSD 14 is Sloth mode, a new speed profile that’s even more cautious than the existing Chill setting. It prioritizes slower acceleration, conservative lane changes, and reduced speed in complex areas.
That might frustrate impatient drivers, but it’s ideal for those who value smooth, ultra-defensive driving behavior.
Tesla FSD 14 introduces parking selection
Another major feature in this release is the smart parking option selection at the end of a trip. Drivers can now choose from several options before the car finishes routing:
- Curbside
- Driveway
- Street parking
- Parking garage
- Standard parking lot
This semi-autonomous parking selection is a precursor to the full autonomous parking system, something Musk says will arrive in FSD 14.2.
Neural network now handles navigation logic
Beyond parking and Sloth mode, Tesla FSD 14 makes a deep shift under the hood: navigation and routing are now folded into Tesla’s vision-based neural net. This means the system can react in real time to blocked roads, emergency vehicles, and surprise detours.
Improvements also include:
- Better handling of school buses, cut-ins, and unprotected turns
- Automatic yielding to police, fire trucks, and ambulances
- Enhanced object detection for debris and road hazards
- Alerts for interior windshield residue affecting camera visibility
Tesla FSD 14 sentience not here yet
Elon Musk teased “sentient” driving behavior for FSD 14, but that’s been pushed to version 14.2. Similarly, fully autonomous parking from start to finish isn’t here just yet; only the location selection is live for now.
Even so, Tesla FSD 14 shows clear progress toward that vision. With each update, Tesla edges closer to the full autonomy experience it’s been promising for years. This version might not be the big leap, but it’s certainly a meaningful one.
The robotaxi dream may still be loading, but at least now, it slows down for debris.
