Tesla Megapacks Power Colossus Supercomputer!

Ana sayfa / News

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI has activated Tesla Megapack batteries as an energy source in the Colossus supercomputer it built in the US. This computer, developed for the training of artificial intelligence models and the social media platform X, has started operating at full capacity with a sustainable energy infrastructure.

The facility became active in less than a year. The system, which is currently connected to a 150 MW transformer center, is also supported by Tesla Megapack units that can store 150 MWh of energy.

These battery systems with lithium-ion technology help to operate the system without interruption during power outages and high consumption periods. Each Megapack can store approximately 3,900 kWh of energy.

The natural gas turbines used temporarily during the construction of the Colossus have now begun to be replaced by the electricity grid and battery systems. While a significant portion of the turbines have been decommissioned, the remaining turbines will be kept for backup purposes only with the new transformer center to be completed in the second phase of the facility.

The Colossus supercomputer first started working with 100 thousand Nvidia H100 GPU units in July 2024. This number was doubled as of February 2025. Elon Musk aims for this system to reach exactly 1 million GPUs in the long term.
