Tesla shared a preview of its new Robotaxi ride-hailing mobile app in the company’s latest financial report. CEO Elon Musk announced in August that he would reveal the long-awaited Robotaxi project. The company provided five screenshots of the new app.

The app starts with a “Summon” button and provides information about waiting times. Other screens include a 3D map showing a vehicle moving toward the waiting passenger. Passengers can adjust the car’s interior temperature to their liking while waiting and get information about waiting times and vehicle capacity.

Once the vehicle arrives, the screen displays the travel route and offers control options like music selection. This new app resembles a typical ride-hailing app but with a more “Tesla-like” feel. Although it’s not fully autonomous yet, Musk has long indicated that Tesla plans to offer passenger transport with autonomous vehicles.

The company showcased a fully enclosed Robotaxi concept vehicle at an event in 2023. While Tesla’s promises about autonomous driving technology have not yet fully materialized, this new app shows that Tesla is serious about its Robotaxi project. Robotaxi could offer a new revenue model by allowing Tesla owners to use their cars to make money when they’re not using them.

However, Tesla’s current inability to achieve fully autonomous driving could delay the launch of the Robotaxi service due to legal and safety issues. The preview of Tesla’s Robotaxi ride-hailing app demonstrates the company’s commitment to autonomous driving and its innovative approach.

The app provides a preview of how Tesla owners and users might use the Robotaxi service. However, given Tesla’s past experiences with launching fully autonomous vehicles, there’s still uncertainty about when and how this service will fully roll out.

Still, Tesla may need to make significant efforts in safety and regulatory issues to successfully implement this service. What do you think of the app? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
