Subnautica 2, the sequel to Subnautica, has been announced by developer Unknown Worlds and publisher Krafton. The game, which will meet players in 2025 as part of the Xbox Game Preview program, will be available for PC players to test during the early access phase.
Subnautica 2 announced
Subnautica 2 will take players to a brand new planet, an underwater world full of rich and alien ecosystems waiting to be explored. Players will encounter strange new sea creatures large and small. In the trailer, a new species of leviathan is shown, which is gigantic in size, bioluminescent and has curved tentacles. Like the first game, Subnautica 2 will combine survival mechanics with exploration and base building.
Players will be able to gather resources and craft new vehicles to dive deeper to unlock the planet’s secrets. New and improved vehicles, equipment and structures can be built to expand their base and increase their diving range.
One of the most important new features of Subnautica 2 is that it will support 4-player co-op mode starting at Xbox Game Preview launch. Players will be able to join forces with friends in a fight for survival. Those who prefer to play alone will be able to test out the single-player story mode.
After the Xbox Game Preview early access period, the game will also be released on Steam and the Epic Games Store. This will give the development team the opportunity to evaluate player feedback and improve the game before the full release.
Subnautica 2 is set to retain the features that made the first game a success and captivate players with new co-op gameplay mechanics and planetary mysteries.
