The black box in airplanes is coming to cars! How will it work?

Ana sayfa / Cars

As it is known, there is a black box in airplanes. This records all information throughout the flight and authorities can access it whenever needed. It also facilitates investigation if any accident occurs. Now, a similar system is coming to cars to be sold in Europe . So what good will this do? Here are all the details…

The European Union has made a new decision concerning automobile manufacturers. Accordingly, as of July 2024, it has become mandatory for vehicles to have an Event Data Recorder, or EDR for short, which serves the same purpose as a black box .

EDR will be mandatory only for vehicles in M1 and N1 classes. For those who do not know, M1 covers vehicles used for passenger transportation but does not exceed 8 seats, and N1 covers cargo transportation vehicles that do not exceed 3 thousand 500 kilograms.

Budget Honor Magic 6 is coming to Europe!

Honor Magic 6 series is making its debut in the global market. The official statement came from the company.

According to the information provided, EDR will be placed in the airbag system of the vehicles. It will not be removed optionally. According to available information, the system will start working when the airbag sensor is triggered. It will collect data such as vehicle speed, position, braking and vehicle vibration.

If the EDR system detects an emergency based on the data it collects, the vehicle will automatically call for help with the eCall system. According to the information shared by the European Commission, all data will remain with the vehicle owner. However, in case of emergency, authorities will be able to access this data.

So, what do you think about Europe imposing a black box requirement for automobiles? You can share your opinions with us in the Comments section below.
