Elon Musk and Tesla have accelerated their work for the electric sports car Roadster. A new date was given for the vehicle first introduced in 2017. Stating that they will make radical changes in the design, CEO Elon Musk said that the Roadster will be more than a car.
Target for the new Tesla Roadster is 2025
According to Elon Musk’s statement, Tesla has accelerated its work for the next generation Roadster. It plans to start production of the electric sports car next year. “A car like this will never happen again, if you can even call it a car,” Musk said.
In remarks at X, Musk said that following the delays, the company has “radically increased its design goals” for the second-generation Roadster. The CEO added that the updated design of the four-seater will be finalized and unveiled by the end of this year.
The Roadster was first introduced in 2017 and production was scheduled to start in 2020. However, problems in the supply chain caused the launch date to be postponed first to 2022 and then to 2023. The company now wants to present the new Roadster with design changes.
Musk said his announcement at X was an important step for the Roadster. He explained that Tesla engineers have found ways to improve the car’s performance beyond the initial goal through hardware and software improvements.
Elon Musk will not sell tesla shares
If Tesla can start production of the Roadster as planned, it could address a huge market in the electric sports car segment. With a 0-100 km/h time of 1.9 seconds, the Roadster aims to be the fastest car ever built.
