The Day Before, one of the biggest alleged scams in gaming history, and its developer Fntastic continue to spark unusual developments. Within just a week, Fntastic, who had shut down The Day Before’s servers and seemed to vanish, recently tried to “start fresh” by announcing a new game. It now appears that this latest project is equally dubious.
Developer Crumbles Another Game!
Fntastic’s infamous reputation continues to grow worldwide. The company announced that it has shelved its Escape Factory project due to the lack of interest in its Kickstarter campaign, which aimed for an SGD 20,000 goal. Interestingly, alongside this statement, Fntastic immediately announced a brand new game project.
This new project, titled ITEMS, is described as an action-horror game. According to Fntastic, funding for the game’s development will be sourced from revenue generated by mobile games.
As you may remember, Fntastic made one of the most controversial debuts in gaming history last year with The Day Before. The game received a dismal score of 12 on OpenCritic and only reached seven reviews on Metacritic, all of which were negative. Following the game’s failure, the company abruptly shut down servers, seemingly disappearing from the scene.
Prominent figures in the gaming world are warning potential backers to research Fntastic’s history thoroughly. The company’s back-and-forth between projects, unclear funding models, and past controversies have only increased the likelihood of ITEMS falling through as well.
