Who wouldn’t want their phone to be fully charged in one minute? A new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) journal shows that a significant step has been taken toward solving charging issues with an advanced technique discovered by the University of Colorado.
The research proves that fully charging phones in one minute is not impossible. The newly developed method relies on supercapacitors to make ion movement more efficient.
Ions are positively charged atoms, and supercapacitors are used to store energy during short charging and discharging cycles. Researcher Ankur Gupta discovered that by making ion movement more efficient, the energy storage and release processes could be accelerated: “The role of energy in the future of the planet is critical, so I decided to use my chemical engineering knowledge to advance energy storage devices.”
This will completely eliminate the charging problems of phones. The research also revealed that the movement of ions in nanoscale pores is different from expected, and this difference could increase the efficiency of energy storage systems.
Charging issues have been among the biggest complaints from users. With the successful implementation of this newly developed technology, this problem will become a thing of the past. However, it is not yet known when this user-experience-enhancing method will be ready for use in devices.
