Google has recently made a name for itself with updates that significantly improve the user experience: One of the most striking of these innovations was the ‘Ask The Photos’ feature added to the Google Photos app. This feature, which had been rumored for a long time, was finally officially announced in early September and a waiting list was created for excited users.

‘Ask Photos’ is a tool powered by Gemini, Google’s artificial intelligence model. This innovative feature allows users to search photo libraries using text commands. If you have thousands of photos stored in the cloud, you will now be able to find a specific image with specific questions without hours of scrolling.
Perhaps the most exciting thing about this update is that it’s not limited to Google devices. This change to the Google Photos platform works on both Android and iOS operating systems. It will appear as a new tab in the app, replacing the old Search tab.
The working principle of the feature is quite interesting. If Google already knows the people in the photos, it asks you to identify their relationship with you. This also applies to pets. You are also asked to review the terms and conditions regarding data privacy.
At first glance, these permissions seem quite safe. Google states that responses are not reviewed by humans, are never used for advertising, and are not used to train generative AI models outside of Photos.
