In releasing Android 16 DP1, Google confirmed that the second developer preview will be released in December 2024, while the beta will be released to everyone in January 2025. The table below details the full release schedule, including the four planned beta releases and the release of the stable version in the second quarter.
This table means that the AOSP version of Android, which is the basis for manufacturers to customise the system, should be released on 30 June . However, the Android Headlines team stresses that reliable sources have confirmed that the final version of Android 16 will be released on 3 June .
Google justified its rush to release Android 16 by saying that the change in schedule will allow new APIs to be released more frequently, increasing innovation with more resources for developers and further optimisation of the system.
In addition to the final release of Android 16 in the first half of the year, the company also plans to release a minor system update with API adjustments, optimisations and more features at the end of 2025.
