Renowned director Guy Ritchie, years after his feature films starring Robert Downey Jr., is returning to the world of the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes with a series project. The first trailer, released by Amazon Prime Video, clarifies the release schedule and overall atmosphere of the “Young Sherlock” series.
Young Sherlock is coming soon!
Adapted from Andy Lane’s beloved book series, the production takes viewers to 1870s Oxford and follows young Sherlock, a 19-year-old at the beginning of his journey to becoming a genius detective, as he handles his first murder case.
The series stars Hero Fiennes Tiffin, who previously worked with Guy Ritchie on “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.” He is joined by a strong cast; Dónal Finn plays James Moriarty, Sherlock’s future greatest rival, while veteran actor Colin Firth appears as Sir Bucephalus Hodge.
The cast also includes Joseph Fiennes as Sherlock’s father Silas, Natascha McElhone as his mother Cordelia, and Max Irons as his older brother Mycroft. Zine Tseng, as Princess Gulun Shou’an, is also featured prominently in the trailer as one of the central characters in the story.
The first season of “Young Sherlock,” consisting of eight episodes, will premiere simultaneously on Amazon Prime Video on March 4, 2026. The first images released showcase Guy Ritchie’s signature fast-paced editing and dynamic action style combined with Victorian mystery.
Focusing on Sherlock’s undisciplined and raw self at Oxford University, the series follows the young detective as he finds himself embroiled in an international conspiracy while trying to solve a murder case that threatens his freedom. This new interpretation sheds light on the character’s chaotic and adventurous years before his settled life on Baker Street.
