The first Turkish astronaut is going to space! Here is the date

Turkey has accelerated its efforts to appear in the space arena. Earlier this year, it was announced that the first Turkish astronaut to go to space would be Alper Gezeravcı. Turkish Space Agency (TUA) and Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır announced the date the astronaut will go to space.

Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır gave details for Turkey’s first manned space mission. Minister Kacır announced in his post on his social media account that the first Turkish astronaut Alper Gezeravcı will go to the International Space Station on January 9, 2024.

According to official statements, Gezeravcı will participate in the Axiom Mission 3 (AX3) flight, which will be held on January 9. As part of this mission, it will be launched to the ISS together with Spanish, Italian and Swedish astronauts. It will stay on the International Space Station for 14 days.

In Minister Kacır’s statement, “Our astronaut, who will proudly carry our flag into space, will stay at the International Space Station for 14 days; “It will carry out 13 different scientific experiments prepared by our scientists.”

Alper Gezeravcı, who was born in Mersin on December 2, 1979, is an F-16 pilot who has been serving in the Air Force Command for 21 years.

Gezeravcı, who graduated from the Air Force Academy as an Electronics Engineer, completed his master’s degree in Operations Research at the US Air Force Institute of Technology.
