Details accidentally revealed in Apple’s developer code have revealed that the next iPad mini 8 model could feature an unexpected performance boost. While not yet confirmed by the company, leaks point to a major processor upgrade and possible display improvements for Apple’s smallest tablet.
Power in Your Hands with the iPad mini 8
Leaked code indicates that a new iPad mini, codenamed J510 and J511, will be equipped with the A19 Pro processor. This processor is expected to launch alongside the iPhone 17 Pro series later this year. This chip will reportedly have more GPU cores than the standard A19 model, potentially offering a significant increase in graphics performance.
Considering that the current iPad mini uses the A17 Pro chip found in the iPhone 15 Pro, the switch to the A19 Pro could be a revolutionary step. This change will make the compact tablet much more capable of demanding apps and future iPadOS features.
Another rumor circulating in tech circles is that Apple is working on an iPad mini with an OLED display. This display technology, likely expected to launch in 2026 or later, will offer more vibrant colors, deeper blacks, and better energy efficiency. However, it remains unclear whether the OLED display update will arrive simultaneously with the new model powered by the A19 Pro processor.
The same code leaks also revealed that Apple is planning to refresh its entry-level iPad. These new models, codenamed J581 and J582, are expected to launch next spring with the A18 chip. This move is seen as part of Apple’s strategy to keep its tablet lineup current in both affordable and high-performance segments.
