Apple is making its final preparations to enter the foldable phone market, a market the tech world has been eagerly anticipating for years. Recent data and 3D designs shared by renowned leaker Jon Prosser indicate that the device, referred to as the “iPhone Fold” or possibly the “iPhone Ultra,” will be one of the thinnest smartphones ever produced.
iPhone Fold will surprise with its thinness
Prosser, who is currently involved in a lawsuit with Apple over leaks regarding iOS 26 and “Liquid Glass” technology, risked his time by sharing details emphasizing that the device is only 9 millimeters thick when closed. This means that each wing of the device is approximately 4.5 millimeters thick, suggesting an even thinner body than the iPhone Air, one of Apple’s thinnest models.
The new model, with its book-style form factor, features a 5.5-inch cover screen on its exterior, while revealing a massive 7.8-inch inner panel when unfolded. In terms of design, the device expands horizontally rather than vertically, reminiscent of Google’s Pixel Fold.
Apple is reportedly using a liquid metal hinge system and a special metal plate that distributes pressure to eliminate the “folding mark,” the biggest problem with foldable screens. These hardware solutions aim to make the screen look completely smooth and surpass competing models.
In terms of technical specifications, Apple appears to have made some radical changes. To maintain the device’s thinness, the company has abandoned Face ID sensors, instead using a new generation Touch ID fingerprint reader integrated into the power button.
On the back, there’s a dual camera system located in an oval housing reminiscent of the iPhone Air, while both the inner and outer screens feature punch-hole notch front cameras. Expected to be powered by the 2-nanometer A20 Pro processor, the phone also incorporates Apple’s own C2 modem unit.
Planned to be introduced in the fall of 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 series, the pricing of this ultra-luxury model represents a new peak in the technology world. Leaks suggest the device will be launched with a starting price ranging from $2,000 to $2,500.
Tested in two classic color options, black and white, the iPhone Fold is poised to be Apple’s most expensive and engineeringly ambitious product to date. With this new form factor, the company is clearly targeting iPad mini users as well, combining both phone and tablet experiences in a single body.
