Normally, it is common for a temporary cache to be created during Windows updates. This cache is used to temporarily store installation files and can be easily cleared after the update is complete. However, in the 24H2 update, this cache cannot be deleted.
The cache remains intact, even when attempting a cleanup through the Control Panel. Other methods, such as the Disk Cleanup Tool, don’t solve the problem either; only a clean installation of Windows can completely wipe the cache.
Users’ feedback revealed that this bug is common with the incoming Windows 11 update and that many people face the same problem. In the comments made on Feedback Hub, users state that they tried to delete the cache with various methods, but they were not successful.
Microsoft is aware of this bug and announced that it is working on a patch to fix the problem. However, there is not much that users can do for now except waiting for this patch. This is a big problem, especially for users with limited storage space.
9 GB is a significant amount of space for low-capacity SSDs. Microsoft needs to resolve this issue quickly, otherwise the user experience will continue to suffer.
