Dutch sperm donor Jonathan Jacob Meijer has sparked a new controversy by claiming that the Netflix documentary ‘The Man with 1000 Children’ is misleading.
The three-part mini-series on Netflix, titled ‘The Man with 1000 Children,’ tells the story of a group of families who discover that their charismatic sperm donor is the father of hundreds, possibly thousands, of children worldwide. However, Dutchman Jacob Meijer claims that the series does not reflect the truth.
The Man with 1000 Children: ‘I have 550 children, not 1000’
Meijer told the BBC that the documentary’s producers never contacted him. This situation reinforces the claims that the series presents a one-sided perspective. Meijer stated that he did not get the opportunity to tell his side of the story, which he finds unfair.
The Dutch donor says his motivation for sperm donation has been misunderstood. Meijer claims his only intention was to help families who wanted to have children, but this intention was distorted in the documentary.
Here are Meijer’s statements:
‘They deliberately titled the documentary ‘The Man with 1000 Children,’ whereas it should have been called ‘Sperm donor who helped bring 550 children into the world.’ I think Netflix did a great job by choosing five families out of the 225 I helped, who were not happy. If you talk to the other 220 families, you’ll definitely hear different things.’
The families in the documentary claim that the sperm donor misled them by saying he had donated to only 3-4 families previously. To understand which side is telling the truth, it will be necessary to wait for the outcomes of the lawsuits that have been filed.
