E-commerce giant Amazon achieved a historic sales success on the first day of Prime Day. Offering discounts on thousands of products, the platform overturned its own record by reaching a sales volume of 7.2 billion dollars in just one day.
Amazon Prime Day 2024 runs to a new record
According to Adobe Analytics data, on the first day of Prime Day, consumer spending in the US increased by 11 percent compared to last year. Spending was $7.2 billion this year, up from $6.4 billion in the same period last year.
This means that the first day of Prime Day has become the biggest e-commerce sales day of the year in the US. Mobile shopping also broke records. Consumers made a total of $3.5 billion worth of purchases on their smartphones and tablets.
On a product basis, the headphones and bluetooth speaker category increased by 164 percent, electronic products by 33 percent and television sales by 83 percent.
Adobe noted that the “Buy Now Pay Later” option attracted a lot of attention and grew by 17 percent to $540 million. Reports suggest that spending will reach $14 billion by the end of the two-day event. This will go down in history as a new record for Prime Day.
The average order amount for Prime Day was 60 dollars. This figure was above the average order amounts of the last two years ($56 and $53 respectively).
