With 776 horsepower, a range of over 400 miles, and a competitive price tag, the new Audi E5 Flagship Quattro electric wagon is taking the Chinese market by storm. The vehicle has been a resounding success, attracting over 10,000 orders in its first 30 minutes of availability. Here are the details.
The Audi E5 Flagship Quattro is more powerful than expected
Introduced last fall, the new Audi model uses a simple, capitalized “AUDI” emblem instead of the traditional Audi logo. The production version, the Audi E5 Sportback, remains surprisingly faithful to its concept while also making a significant difference in horsepower.
While concept cars are often expected to be more powerful than the production versions, the AUDI E5 delivers the opposite. The top-of-the-line Flagship Quattro delivers 776 horsepower, even more than the concept’s 765 horsepower. This model boasts a 100 kWh battery, reaching a range of 645 km (CLTC).
The entry-level Pioneer version comes at a very affordable price of just 235,900 yuan (approximately $33,000). This model uses a 76 kWh battery to power a 295-horsepower rear-mounted electric motor and offers a range of over 600 km.
“The AUDI E5 Sportback is the first model on our Advanced Digitalized Platform and delivers on our brand promise: the best of both worlds,” said Fermín Soneira, CEO of the Audi and SAIC Collaboration Project, describing the vehicle’s DNA. This vehicle combines Audi’s engineering excellence with China’s digital ecosystem and innovations, tailored specifically for tech-savvy Chinese customers.
The E5’s interior design is quite different from traditional Audi models. It aligns more closely with similar entry-luxury EVs sold in China. The vehicle features a 59-inch dashboard display that extends across the entire cockpit, digital side mirrors, Alcantara-covered seats, and wireless phone charging.
All these technologies are powered by the QUALCOMM Snapdragon 8295 automotive chipset. Capable of processing 30 billion operations per second with 5-nanometer precision, this chip and the AUDI OS, specifically designed for the Chinese market, aim to provide users with an intuitive experience.
