Steam has released the results of its monthly hardware and software survey for July, providing a snapshot of the most popular configurations used by gamers. The survey highlights key trends, particularly in operating system preferences.
Most Used Operating Systems – July 2025
According to the July 2025 data, Windows 11 continues to be the most popular operating system among Steam users. It saw a slight increase of 0.06% from June, bringing its total market share to 59.90%.
Windows 10 holds the second spot, although its market share declined by 0.50% from the previous month, dropping to 35.19%.
The once-dominant Windows 7 remained stable in its usage, showing no change from June and holding a market share of 0.09%.

For those considering an upgrade to Windows 11, here are the official system requirements:
- Processor: A 1 GHz or faster 64-bit processor with 2 or more cores, or a System on a Chip (SoC).
- RAM: 4 GB.
- Storage: 64 GB or larger storage device.
- System Firmware: UEFI, with Secure Boot capability.
- TPM: Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0.
- Graphics Card: DirectX 12 or later compatible with a WDDM 2.0 driver.
