Brand rivalry is such an old phenomenon that it has been around as long as brands have existed. There are also technological versions of such rivalries, such as the duels between Pepsi and Coca-Cola, between automobile giants BMW and Audi, or between Burger King and McDonald’s. A new one has been added to these rivalries. So much so that Tecno made fun of OnePlus and Nothing in the Pova 6 Pro commercial.
Tecno went viral with its Pova 6 Pro ad
For non-tech-savvy users, OnePlus and Nothing may sound exotic. These two China-based companies are important names in the smartphone world. So is Tecno, but the company focuses more on the African, Middle Eastern, Southeast Asian, South Asian, Latin American and Eastern European markets.
Recently, an Indian newspaper reader came across a large advertisement for the Tecno Pova 6 Pro in a newspaper published that day. After reading the device specs, which included a 6.78-inch 120 Hz AMOLED display, MediaTek Dimensity 6080 processor, 12 GB of RAM and a 6000 mAh battery, he saw something interesting.
The design of the Tecno Pova 6 Pro looks suspiciously similar to Nothing’s transparent design. The advertising slogan the reader saw was as follows: ‘From One to Nothing, why not choose something better?
Faced with this, the user shared it on X, saying: “Marketing in India doesn’t usually allow such derogatory statements against other brands,” and the post caught the attention of Nothing CEO Carl Pei. Pei, however, was not impressed by this approach and responded with the following:
Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing, who has recently gained the respect of the technology world with his innovative approaches, made fun of the Tecno Pova 6 Pro sarcasm by animating a dialog in his post.
