The Google Play Store is undergoing a major transformation with the integration of artificial intelligence. The store is now evolving beyond being a mere app and game download platform, transforming into a user-specific digital hub.
The AI Revolution in the Google Play Store
The Apps and Games tabs are becoming smarter with AI. Special showcases will be created in the Apps section for seasonal themes (e.g., Halloween). With the “Guided Search” feature, users will be able to perform natural language searches like “find me a house,” and the AI will categorize and present relevant apps.
The Games tab is seeing the most significant change. The player profile is being revamped to track data across all games. A new avatar concept, personalized with generative AI, is also being introduced. Furthermore, with the Play Games Leagues feature, players can compete in compatible games and earn Play Points rewards.
One of the most striking innovations is the AI assistant called Play Games Sidekick, which activates during gameplay. This assistant detects which game is being played through screen sharing and will provide verbal cues and guidance through Gemini Live. This will eliminate the need for players to pause the game and search for a guide whenever they get stuck.
Finally, a personalized “You” tab will consolidate personal content like your game profile, subscriptions, awards, and books and podcasts into one place. This new update is expected to be available to users in the coming weeks.
