Ubisoft’s long-awaited pirate-themed game, Skull and Bones, which has been delayed several times, was released on February 16th, ending its pre-order phase. The game, which received criticism for its price, had its sales figures closely watched. Today, the number of players for Skull and Bones has been revealed.

Skull and Bones is currently playable on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Amazon Luna. It has been revealed that the game has been played by less than 1 million people, with over 850,000 players worldwide, including those who experienced the game for free during Ubisoft’s limited-time access event.

According to these numbers, the game’s launch is not considered successful, with pricing being one of the main reasons for this.

Skull and Bones is priced at $70 in the US. In Turkey, it can be purchased for 999 TL on the Epic Games Store. While Turkish players may find this price acceptable due to rising inflation and currency rates, players abroad do not share the same sentiment.

The reason for the game being perceived as expensive is not its base price, but the additional items that will be sold after purchasing the game. If there were no additional in-game purchases, this price could be considered normal. In fact, even a developer working on Skull and Bones stated that the game is actually worth $30-40.

Since its pre-order phase, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has defended this price. Guillemot even described Skull and Bones as “AAAA” when questioned about why the game is sold for money despite having purchasable additional content, trying to imply that the game is of higher quality than AAA titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and GTA 5. He suggests that players will get their money’s worth.
