The release date for DJI Osmo Pocket 4 has been set!

DJI’s smallest camera series, the Osmo Pocket, is getting ready to receive its biggest update in years. Rumors about the Osmo Pocket 4, which have been circulating since early summer, suggest the device will feature significant improvements rather than a typical annual refresh.

Industry sources indicate that DJI is targeting a December 18th launch date. This timing is strategically important not only for holiday shopping but also due to a US FCC rule targeting DJI products that goes into effect on December 23rd. This allows the Pocket 4 to be legally stocked at US retailers before the rule takes effect. This release date also gives the Osmo Action 6, which was unveiled a month ago, room to breathe in the market.

According to the latest details from YouTube channel Photorabz, known for its reliable leaks, the Osmo Pocket 4 will use a large 1/1.1-inch sensor, which will significantly improve the series’ quality.

Another notable feature of the new model is its variable aperture, adjustable from f/2.0 to f/4.0, similar to what DJI recently introduced on the Osmo Action 6. Aperture control offers great flexibility in video shooting: You can open the aperture for softer backgrounds when shooting your own footage, or close it for landscapes and travel shots.

Some specifications suggest DJI may reuse the Action 6’s 1/1.1-inch sensor, which reportedly has a dynamic range of 13.5 EV. This will help achieve better results in challenging lighting conditions (indoors, sunsets, nighttime city shots) without requiring heavy editing.

A point not definitive in the leaks, but a strong possibility, is whether DJI will use a square-format sensor, which would make switching between vertical and horizontal shooting much smoother. Apple’s adoption of this idea for the iPhone 17 series’ selfie camera is a testament to the potential impact of this concept.

Another major upgrade expected is full 360-degree panning, borrowed from the new Osmo Mobile 8. If true, the Pocket 4 will easily be able to capture smooth pans and tracking shots that would normally require a larger gimbal.

Considering all these changes, the Osmo Pocket 4 appears poised to offer a noticeable upgrade over previous models, and these improvements are expected to not negatively impact the device’s portability.
