Veteran director Michael Mann has rolled up his sleeves for his next project after the blockbuster Ferrari. Released in 1995, the countdown has begun for the sequel to the unforgettable crime movie Heat with Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. New details about the highly anticipated Heat 2 movie were shared from the director’s mouth.
What is expected from Heat 2?
Speaking at a recent special screening of Miami Vice, Michael Mann shared the latest details about Heat 2, which is scheduled to start shooting late this year or early 2025.
The director shared some circumstantial information with fans, such as the length of the script and therefore the current duration of the sequel: “I’m working on the script seven days a week and it’s going to be at least as long as the original Heat, which was 2 hours and 50 minutes. We’re shooting in Paraguay, Mexicali, Chicago, Los Angeles and then Southeast Asia.”
According to early details, actor Adam Driver will star as Neil MacCauley (first portrayed by Robert De Niro in the 1995 cult classic) in Heat 2. Other actors rumored to join the cast include Austin Butler and Ana de Armas.
Heat 2 will be an adaptation of Mann’s self-published novel, which became a #1 New York Times bestseller in August 2022. The highly anticipated movie will be set before and after the original. For this, it will utilize flashback scenes, just like we saw in The Godfather – Part Two. These flashback scenes are said to take place mostly in the characters of Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) and Chris Shiherlis (Val Kilmer).
