A Reddit user discovered that the “open box” Pixel Watch he bought from eBay was a prototype. When he entered the fast boot mode, he saw that the Hardware Revision was PVT0.1 (production validation test), indicating that the device is still in an early stage and significant features have already been revealed.
Does the new Pixel Watch have lower specs?
The Pixel Watch, released in October 2022, had better features in some key areas compared to its competitors. However, a prototype has emerged, indicating that Google started the development process of the Pixel Watch with a less capable device.
It turns out that the test device has only 1GB of RAM compared to the 2GB RAM of the first-generation Pixel Watch released in 2022. The appearance of the “Less RAM Than Targeted” warning screen when trying to pair revealed this difference. Additionally, it has only 8GB of storage instead of 32GB, which is twice the storage of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4.
No changes in appearance
It is said that this prototype Pixel Watch experiences “screen burn-in,” slow performance, and battery charging issues. However, apart from these, the hardware design seems unchanged until the model is released. So, there hasn’t been any change in its appearance.
Google’s entry into the market with these features may have been negatively affected, especially by the performance of the Exynos 9110 from 2018, before the fall of 2022. However, the Original Pixel Watch had surpassed the 1.5GB RAM used in Samsung’s wearable devices.
Such a small amount of storage would really limit offline downloads for media applications like YouTube Music. Both features revealed that Google could sell this model at a more affordable price in 2024.
