The Office, a cult 2000s comedy series, is preparing to return to the big screen with a new version. Peacock has officially begun promotional activities for The Paper, a modern adaptation of the series. The first trailer for the highly anticipated series has been released. The Paper will premiere on September 4, 2025.

The new series follows The Office in terms of format and style. Filmed with a mockumentary aesthetic, the series centers on a newspaper office. Following in the footsteps of the original series, which satirized corporate culture, The Paper portrays the internal dynamics of a well-established local newspaper struggling to survive, blending comedic elements with the story.
At the center of the series is Ned Sampson, the newspaper’s new Editor-in-Chief. Sampson, who struggles to build a real newsroom from this diverse and incompetent team with no professional journalism background, finds himself amidst a dysfunctional office environment.
Starring Domhnall Gleeson, the series’ cast includes Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, and Tim Key. The only returning cast member from the original The Office is Oscar Nuñez, who will reprise his role as Oscar Martinez. All other characters and storylines are set in a completely new universe.
It’s unclear how viewers who have bonded with The Office’s iconic characters will react to The Paper. However, the fact that Greg Daniels is back behind the project keeps expectations high. Daniels was also a creative member of the original The Office adaptation for American television and was among the key figures in shaping the series’ tone.
The trailer’s absurd office dialogue, chaotic comedic elements from ordinary workdays, and direct dialogue delivered directly to the camera evoke the atmosphere of The Office. However, this time, the humor is centered on the media industry. Each character featured in the trailer stands out with their unique quirks, and the discord within the cast already signals that the series will be a major source of comedy.
The Paper, with a release date announced for September 4th, will be available on Peacock. The number of episodes for the first season or whether a second season has been renewed has not yet been announced. Given the popularity and cult status of the original, the impact of this new version is being closely watched.
