The “Enabling International Networks: Strengthening the Turkish Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Report” filled an important gap in Turkey’s entrepreneurship ecosystem and shed light on the potential of Turkish entrepreneurs abroad.
Turkish Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Report
This comprehensive study is also noteworthy for being the first of its kind in this field. Based on interviews with more than 400 Turkish entrepreneurs operating abroad, the report offers concrete suggestions on how the Turkish ecosystem can more effectively benefit from this valuable resource.
The survey results clearly show that Turkish entrepreneurs abroad represent a significant opportunity for Turkey. A significant number of entrepreneurs operate in countries with well-developed entrepreneurship ecosystems, such as the US and the UK.
Focusing on future technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and software, these entrepreneurs have a vision that parallels the ecosystem in Turkey. Moreover, the vast majority of these entrepreneurs have not severed their ties with Turkey. Many of them continue to work with teams in Turkey, and some even run their operations from Turkey.
One of the most striking results of the research is that Turkish entrepreneurs abroad are eager to contribute to the Turkish entrepreneurship ecosystem. They are ready to support Turkish entrepreneurs in areas such as mentorship, investment and networking.
However, some obstacles need to be overcome for this willingness to be fully realized. For example, a large number of entrepreneurs complain about the lack of mechanisms to connect them with the Turkish ecosystem.
This is where the report comes in, and clearly lays out the steps that need to be taken to fully capitalize on the potential of Turkish entrepreneurs abroad. First of all, programs and policies need to be developed to strengthen the ties of this valuable human resource abroad with Turkey and even encourage them to return to Turkey.
In addition, there is a need for platforms that bring entrepreneurs in Turkey and abroad together and facilitate communication and collaboration. It is also important to implement policies to support entrepreneurs to expand into new markets and to increase the capacity of existing support mechanisms.
