One of the biggest obstacles to the electric vehicle revolution, charging times and range anxiety, could be history with a battery manufacturer. The company introduced its next-generation battery that uses a silicon composite anode and offers much higher energy density compared to lithium-ion batteries. The electric car battery allegedly promises a range of 300 km with just 5 minutes of charging.

Battery manufacturer ProLogium has unveiled new technology with a silicon composite anode that promises significant improvements in energy density and fast charging capacity. The company said its new battery system outperforms existing electric car batteries. Accordingly, it reached 321 Wh/kg energy density.

The most striking point seems to be the charging speed of the battery. ProLogium said the battery can charge from 5 percent to 60 percent capacity in just 5 minutes and up to 80 percent in 8.5 minutes. That means it’s 80 percent faster than current electric car charging technologies.

Xiaomi Smart Band 9 review: Is it worth buying?

Now in its 9th generation, the Xiaomi Smart Band 9 is here.

The charging speed of the battery seems to eliminate range anxiety by significantly reducing the waiting time for the batteries to charge. Accordingly, it promises a driving range of 300 km with a five-minute charge.

The modular design could also reduce repair and recycling costs. Aiming to move into commercial production, ProLogium has partnered with automotive supplier FEV to start producing battery packs. If the company’s battery can perform as well in the real world as it has in laboratory tests, it could be a game changer.
