Mojang, the developer of Minecraft, has issued a new warning for Windows 10 and 11. It reported that updating Minecraft through the Xbox app caused some problems. That’s why it asked players not to use the Xbox app.
Minecraft breaks when updated from the Xbox app
According to a tweet from the Mojang Status account, the new Minecraft update contains a bug that could cause players to permanently lose their saved files. In particular, Windows 10/11 owners who update via the Xbox app may receive this bug.
Updating Minecraft through the Xbox app runs the risk of automatically deleting players’ data. The reason for this bug is unknown, but it seems quite surprising since both are Microsoft products.
Mojang has recommended that players run the “Game Services Repair Tool” before installing Minecraft updates released through the Xbox app. This tool aims to fix issues with core game services used by Xbox and Minecraft on Windows.
Running the repair tool can help prevent a data loss bug. Microsoft, on the other hand, recommends using troubleshooting instructions on its forums. It said it will offer support to gamers through the Xbox app.
Your data loss issue does not affect Minecraft: Java Edition. However, players can still back up their files externally as a precaution. So you can protect your data against any updates.
