Threads will add the feature that Twitter ruined to the platform

Ana sayfa / News

Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, revealed that his team is actively working on developing a third-party API for Threads. This move comes in response to concerns that such an API could benefit publishers more than creators.

Threads is not equivalent to Twitter (or X) because it lacks a developer API

First of all, let’s explain what API is: API is a system created so that one software can use the functions defined in another software. This system, defined as “Application Programming Interface” in Turkish; It can be used for web application, operating system, database, hardware and software libraries.

Mosseri: “We are working on it. My concern is that the content of publishers on the platform increases rather than the content of content producers. But it seems like something we need to deal with.”

If the API is comprehensive enough, it has the potential to open up new ways to interact with Threads through third-party apps and web experiences. It may also offer features not currently available in Threads, such as lists or tracking specific topics.

In particular, major social platforms such as

(For example, as an example that everyone may know, the screenshot application Picao.me, which works integrated with Twitter, was affected by this API restriction and you can no longer use it for free.)

With nearly 100 million monthly active users, Threads presents a promising opportunity for developers compared to newer alternatives such as Mastodon, Bluesky, and other X-derived platforms.

Threads’ integration with the open social media protocol ActivityPub remains an open question. Mosseri has expressed its commitment to associating Threads with this protocol and has taken a small step in this direction by enabling profile verification on the platform called fediverse.

If full ActivityPub support is implemented, Threads posts could appear alongside content from Mastodon, Reddit alternative Lemmy, and other platforms that work with this protocol.
