Three Major Mistakes Sony Made with the PlayStation Brand

Ana sayfa / News

Sony has achieved tremendous success with the PlayStation 5, but some recent mistakes have raised concerns about the future of the PlayStation brand. Decisions regarding hardware and software have led the company to miss key opportunities in the rapidly growing gaming industry. Here are the three major mistakes Sony has made recently:

Sony aimed for big success with the multiplayer FPS game Concord. However, the game launched with a price tag while trying to compete with giants like Overwatch, Fortnite, and Valorant—most of which were free to play.

This left Concord at a disadvantage, as it was trying to compete in an era dominated by free-to-play games. Launching a paid game in such a competitive field proved to be a strategic mistake. The game couldn’t overcome this challenge and was shut down within a week. It’s expected that Sony will re-release the game as a completely free-to-play title in the near future.

The PlayStation Portal was designed to allow users to play PlayStation games anywhere. While the concept seemed promising, the device encountered numerous technical problems.

Despite its €200 price tag, the Portal suffered from interruptions in game streaming, even with good internet connections. This meant that players could not use the device smoothly in places like hotels or cafés.

Sony ‘Accidentally’ Leaks PS5 Pro Design!

One of the world's largest technology giants, Sony, seems to have accidentally leaked the design of the PS5 Pro on its own website.

Another issue was the lack of integration with PlayStation Plus. The inability to stream games directly from the PlayStation Plus library made the experience even more difficult. While the Portal sold out upon its initial release, it has since lost popularity.

The Last of Us series, developed by Naughty Dog, had a huge fanbase eagerly awaiting a multiplayer version, The Last of Us Online. However, the game encountered significant obstacles during development and was ultimately canceled. One of the main reasons for this was Naughty Dog’s lack of a team large enough to support a live-service game.

Fans of The Last of Us were deeply disappointed by this cancellation, especially those who had waited for years hoping for an improved “Factions” mode. Unfortunately, the game did not meet these expectations, and mistakes during the transition to a live-service model led to the project’s end.
