After the TikTok ban imposed on devices issued by the government in the US, this time TikTok has been completely banned in one state.
The US’s stance against products and services developed by China-based companies has become well known to everyone. The US, which has embargoed Huawei and nearly prevented it from entering the country, has recently been taking a harsh stance against TikTok. After the TikTok ban imposed on devices issued by the government, TikTok has now been completely banned in one state.
TikTok is officially banned in one state
The bill completely banning TikTok from January 1, 2024, was signed by Montana Governor Greg Gianforte. Governor Gianforte stated that they signed this decision to protect the private data and sensitive personal information of the people of Montana from being collected by the Chinese Communist Party.
In a statement on his Twitter account, the Governor said;
“I banned TikTok in Montana to protect Montanans’ personal and private data from the Chinese Communist Party.”
In this context, downloading TikTok within the state’s boundaries is prohibited. App stores and those facilitating the download of TikTok may face fines. No penalty will be applied to those using TikTok.
US officials highlight that ByteDance may be open to interference from the Chinese government and have been expressing national security risk concerns for a long time. Some believe that Chinese officials have access to TikTok user data belonging to US citizens and can even influence the application’s algorithm to provide pro-China content. TikTok denies these allegations.
