TikTok has introduced a feature that will alleviate the hassle of finding music, allowing users to find songs by singing or humming. Named “Sound Search,” this new feature is a strong move against competitors like YouTube Music and Shazam. So, how is Sound Search used?
TikTok Announces Sound Search (Song Finding) Feature
TikTok Sound Search allows you to find songs not only by listening but also by humming or singing. It is similar to YouTube Music’s song identification tool but goes beyond Shazam, enabling you to find a song without playing it.
To use TikTok’s new feature, go to the search bar in the app, click on the microphone icon, and then select the “Sound Search” option. Users testing the feature have found that when they hum or sing a popular song, the tool quickly identifies it and shows related videos. For instance, when humming Rihanna’s “Umbrella,” the tool immediately recognizes the song and displays popular videos containing it.
However, Sound Search may not always yield perfect results. There can be errors, especially with less popular songs or sounds not frequently used on TikTok. For example, it recognized Hilary Duff’s “Fly” but struggled to show relevant videos.
With this feature, TikTok aims to keep users on the platform longer. Since music is a key driver of TikTok trends, this feature will enhance song discovery. Moreover, with this move, TikTok is stepping into the domain of competitors like Shazam and YouTube Music.
