TikTok has been working on Instagram competitor apps for some time. After a service called TikTok Notes, a new social media platform was quietly launched. The platform, called Whee, offers TikTok users a more privacy-oriented space.
New app from the maker of TikTok: Whee
TikTok’s parent company ByteDance has launched a new social media app called Whee. The platform, which is currently in early access on the Google Play Store, offers an Instagram-like use. However, users will only be able to share photos and videos with close friends.
According to the statement on Google Play, Whee offers a way for users to capture and share “spontaneous moments” in their lives. In this context, it is similar to the BeReal application. In other words, it is possible to say that it has an Instagram and BeReal style of use.
TikTok has long faced privacy concerns in the US and Europe. The company, which has been criticized for its policies on handling user data, is trying to expand its network with different services. After TikTok Notes, TikTok wants to expand its user base with Whee.
It should be noted that the Whee application is still in the testing phase and is not yet available in many countries. There is also no iOS version of the application. However, it is available for download in Turkey via Google Play Store.
TikTok, which has taken the world by storm, is estimated to be worth 100 billion dollars. However, the Chinese government legally prevents the sale of the TikTok algorithm, the key to its success, to any US company. The ban could exacerbate existing tensions between the two countries and set a precedent for similar practices.
