In an effort to create a safer environment for its users, Tinder has announced the introduction of a new identity verification system. Initially rolled out in heavily-used regions such as the United States, United Kingdom, Brazil, and Mexico, this innovation is expected to significantly reduce instances of fraud and identity theft. Here are the details…
Tinder introduces a new identity verification method
While Tinder previously required selfie photos or videos for identity verification, it will now also mandate the input of passport or driver’s license information. Verified personal details will then be displayed on the user’s profile. A blue camera icon indicating profile verification will still be obtained by simply taking a selfie. However, providing passport or driver’s license information will now be mandatory for the blue checkmark badge.
Tinder tested this verification system last year in New Zealand and Australia, where it proved to be quite successful. It will now be activated for the aforementioned four countries during the summer months. This innovation is expected to significantly hinder malicious individuals from achieving their goals, thereby enabling users to have a better Tinder experience and potentially find their life partners.
Previously, Tinder attempted to conduct criminal record checks in collaboration with the Garbo company but ultimately discontinued the project due to lack of success. The reception of this new security measure by users is already a topic of curiosity.
