Many people download TV series, movies, and games through various applications on the internet. However, those who opt for illegal methods to avoid paying for such content face various risks. A recent study conducted by HP Wolf has revealed a new malware targeting individuals who download TV series and movies.
Malware seeking personal data
According to the company’s statement, the malicious software named ChromeLoader has been affecting users of websites offering movie and game downloading services since March. It is claimed that this software deceives users into installing a malicious extension called “Shampoo.”
The Shampoo extension reportedly redirects users’ search queries to malicious websites, and it is stated that getting rid of this software is quite challenging. The software, which employs various methods to persist on computers, is detected by the Task Scheduler, refreshing itself every 50 minutes.
Experts emphasize that this malware is highly resilient and has various measures against deletions. These applications are capable of largely protecting themselves against numerous debugging and analysis procedures.
In HP Wolf’s Security Threat Insights Report released quarterly, it is mentioned that the Chrome extension malware also compromises users’ Office 365 accounts and shares information about individuals.
Experts recommend users to be extremely cautious when opening email attachments, clicking on links, and downloading files through browsers to protect themselves against these increasingly prevalent attacks. Let us once again remind you that personal data can easily be exposed as a result of such downloads.
While the internet offers many useful information and content, it is also crucial to be vigilant against such malicious software. What are your thoughts on downloading TV series, movies, or games from the internet? Feel free to share your opinions in the comments section.
