Trump administration targets start-stop technology!

Ana sayfa / News

The US government is taking another step against environmental practices. This time, the administration is targeting the start-stop system in cars. The statements made by EPA (US Environmental Protection Agency) Director Lee Zeldin have sparked a new debate.

Zeldin criticized the start-stop technology in his post, saying, “It makes your car stop at every red light so that companies can get climate participation medals. Everyone hates this feature.” The head of the Environmental Protection Agency’s approach to technology aimed at reducing carbon emissions in this way was met with great backlash.

The start-stop system has been widely used by automobile manufacturers around the world for nearly 20 years. This system automatically shuts down the engine when the vehicle stops at a red light or stops in heavy traffic. The mechanism saves fuel, especially in urban use.

Scientific data also confirms that this technology reduces fuel consumption. In comprehensive tests, it was seen that the start-stop system saved between 4% and 8.7% in real-life conditions.

The criticisms of start-stop systems in the past, such as “the engine and starter equipment are damaged”, are largely out of date today. Automobile manufacturers are preventing potential failures by developing starter motors compatible with this technology.

This latest move by the Trump administration has started a new discussion in terms of environmental and energy policies. What do you think about this issue? You can share your views with us in the comments section below.
