Among the decisions to be taken by the new US President Donald Trump is to cancel the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rule he describes as the “electric vehicle mandate”. What are Trump’s plans?
- Declaring an Energy Emergency: Trump will make increasing US fossil fuel production a priority for his administration. This means further increasing US crude oil production, which is already at an all-time high.
- Repeal of electric vehicle regulations: The EPA’s regulation requiring 30% to 56% of light vehicles to be electric by 2032 will be canceled.
- Oil and gas exploration in Alaska: Oil and gas drilling in Alaska, restricted by the Biden administration, will be reopened.
- Reducing regulations: Trump will issue new orders to remove regulations that he argues hinder economic growth.
Trump will also sign an “anti-inflation” memorandum to lower consumer prices. However, the new administration plans to develop an approach that involves all government departments to reduce price increases.
