According to the data announced by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, 20 million 714 thousand 266 people traveled by High Speed Train (HSR), Marmaray, Baskentray, regional and mainline trains in July.
Marmaray broke a record in July
Marmaray carried 16 million 863 thousand 448 passengers in July, serving more passengers than the population of Istanbul. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that Marmaray has a major role in Istanbul’s urban transportation and that this line is the lifeblood of the city’s transportation system. While Marmaray offers an effective solution to the traffic problem in Istanbul, it also has an important share in intercity rail transportation.
Baskentray has also become an indispensable part of Ankara’s transportation system. This line, which has an important place in urban transportation, served approximately 2 million people in July. Uraloğlu emphasized that Ankara residents prefer Başkentray and the number of passengers is constantly increasing.
The demand for rail transportation in Turkey continues to increase day by day. High Speed Trains (HSR) and other railway lines offer safe, fast and comfortable travel to citizens. In July, 1 million 114 thousand 206 people traveled by HSR. Regional and mainline trains carried 957 thousand passengers in total.
The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure continues its efforts to expand railway lines and provide services to more passengers. Minister Uraloğlu states that the importance of railways in Turkey is increasing and investments in this field will continue.
