When you think of the Cold War era, the first country that comes to mind is likely Russia. Especially for those interested in the technologies of that era, images of giant antennas, complex radio networks, and futuristic weapons designed structures may come to mind. Turkey announced its withdrawal from the European Conventional Armed Forces Treaty, symbolizing the end of this era. But what is the CFE Agreement? What does it mean for us? Here are the details…

The CFE Agreement, or the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe, holds significant importance as it marks the official end of the Cold War in 1990. With the end of the war, Europe actually faced a power balance problem. Especially with neighboring countries and Russia constantly experiencing power struggles, border security was also threatened.

In this context, European countries came together to form the CFE Agreement. Under this agreement, the number of tanks, artillery, armored vehicles, and aircraft that could be deployed in Europe is limited. It also includes regulations regarding the locations of these military vehicles.
