Twitch is preparing to roll out the first major update to its mobile app since 2019. The company announced plans for a major redesign of its mobile app later in the year. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said the discover section will be the new landing page.
Twitch mobile app design is changing
Twitch’s mobile app will work similarly to other social media services. Accordingly, the discover page will allow users to watch from both the channels they follow and recommended content. This will also make it easier to find new broadcasts.
The redesigned app will also gain social features such as creating and sharing short videos directly from the mobile app. Users will be able to zoom in on photos similar to Instagram and share portrait videos in their stories.
In addition, Twitch moderators on iPhone will now have access to moderation tools directly in the mobile app. The easy-to-use mod tools are slated to launch on iOS first, followed by Android.
Twitch outlined the changes it will make to its community guidelines by 2024, with harsher penalties for prohibited behavior. In particular, it wants to end harassment in the app. New tools are also being developed to help detect harassment in chat.
The live streaming platform also said it will make its clip editor useful for sharing on social networks, including a direct export option. The editor and new features will be available with the redesigned mobile app later this year.
