Twitch is redesigning its mobile app and rolling it out this summer. Announced by CEO Dan Clancy at TwitchCon Europe, the redesign will greatly improve the platform’s mobile experience.

Twitch’s mobile app is crucial to the future of the platform. According to Clancy, 70 percent of new users first discover Twitch on their mobile devices. In addition, 50 percent of all users use both desktop and mobile devices, while 40 percent only use the mobile app. Therefore, making the mobile app user-friendly is a top priority.
The most striking feature of the new mobile app will be the Discovery Feed on the homepage. This feed will help viewers find new broadcasters based on their interests. Jeremy Forrester stated that this feature is not intended to compete with Instagram or TikTok, but rather to direct viewers directly to broadcasters’ channel pages.
“Our goal is not to encourage people to scroll constantly, but to direct them to the broadcasts they want to watch. We want to enable viewers to interact with streamers and become part of their communities.”
The Twitch mobile app will also include a Stories feature. This will enable partner streamers to create short posts by the end of the summer. The clip creation process will also be optimized for mobile devices and made more user-friendly with automatic portrait view. Stream Together will make it easier for streamers to collaborate and offer custom editing options.
New features such as the DJ Program and Power-ups were also announced. The DJ Program will partner with major record labels to allow DJs to stream popular music on Twitch. Power-ups will allow viewers to support streams using Bits. This feature has been a huge hit with users, with 25 percent more usage.
