Twitter may auction off usernames of inactive accounts

After Elon Musk, important changes are taking place on the Twitter platform. Musk is making plans especially focused on monetization. In recent months, CEO Elon Musk made an announcement and said that the accounts of 1.5 billion Twitter users who have not logged into their accounts and tweeted for years will be deleted.

Twitter accounts that have not been used for a long time may be deleted

Musk announced that they will basically start to empty the usernames of unused accounts. He also seems to have found a way to monetize this. Because according to a new report by The New York Times, the company is considering selling usernames as a different way to increase its revenues. The report says that Twitter is considering organizing online auctions where bids can be made for usernames that have become vacant. Twitter has not yet made any announcement on this matter. However, it is thought that high prices could be offered for certain usernames.

An update was also made for Twitter yesterday. Elon Musk announced last week that a new navigation infrastructure will come to the platform next week. This promised step was first taken yesterday for the iOS platform. This new structure allows switching between “most popular Tweets” and “most recent Tweets” with a side swipe. Previously, it was necessary to press the star icon in the upper right corner and select from there.

The home page now includes “For You” and “Followed” sections like TikTok. In the Followed section, you can see the posts of the people you follow. In the For You section, which now opens as standard, you will see special content selected by the algorithm for you, posts from people you do not follow, and more. Another important innovation is on the way for Twitter. Elon Musk announced last month that the character limit on the platform will increase from 280 to 4,000. Longer Tweets will be available at the beginning of February.
