Elon Musk has announced that Twitter will begin sharing revenue from reply-thread ads with creators who have subscribed to Twitter Blue Verified. The program, which is set to start today, will be exclusive to those who pay for the Twitter Blue subscription, which currently costs $8 per month if acquired directly from Twitter or $11 per month from Apple’s App Store or Google Play. The verified marks for legacy users will be going away in the coming months.

Elon Musk will share Twitter ad revenue — but only with creators who pay for Twitter Blue

Twitter Blue offers several perks such as the ability to upload higher-quality and longer videos and a view count for tweets, labeled as “verified views” on the Android app. This announcement, which comes as a surprise, comes as part of Musk’s recent discussions about creators and the need for revenue sharing on the platform.

The ad revenue-sharing program is a new feature for Twitter and could help the platform compete with other social media sites such as YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, which have systems in place for paying creators directly through ad splits or funds.

However, many details about the program remain unknown, and there has been no information shared by Twitter’s support pages or creator accounts. It is yet to be seen if there are any additional requirements beyond a Twitter Blue subscription to receive a share of the ad revenue, as YouTube has specific engagement and follower count criteria to join its partner program.
