Threads, the text-based social media app owned by Meta, continues to receive new features. In this context, it has launched a new “Trending Topics” feature for users to follow the latest topics on the platform. This will be similar to Twitter’s “Trending Topics” service.
Threads gets Trending Topics support
In a recent statement, Threads CEO Adam Mosseri announced that trending topics will now appear in the search section of the app. Below the search bar will be a list of the five most engaged hashtags and topics.
Tapping on a trending topic will lead to a page with the most popular posts tagged with that hashtag. This will work in the same way we are used to from other social platforms like Twitter.
This will allow Threads users to discover what people are sharing and talking about in relation to important events, pop culture or other trends.
However, trending topics in Threads will not be refreshed in real time, as they are in other apps. Still, the feature aims to show users what kinds of posts and conversations are popular. You’ll be able to browse posts on topics like politics, movies and sports without having to search for specific hashtags.
The addition of trending topics also shows Threads’ aim to become a more general social media platform, not just a messaging platform. This feature will allow users to stay informed about topics that are going viral.
